Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby

A line I find worthy of consideration every time I hear someone say something mind-numbingly, anti-logically, paradoxically stupid. In other words, quite often. Watch the Republican debates and you can imagine seeing one particular candidate *cough*Ron Paul*cough* thinking this every time the others speak.

For enjoyment, my favorite comedian doing one of my favorite bits, Abe Lincoln vs. Madison Ave. Right here Bob Newhart shows a sort of keen brilliance in his line of thinking that is sometimes hard to miss and yet hard to be seen in the political arena today.

Equal Justice Under Law Marbury v. Madison (1st in a 4 part series). Dramatizations of historic decisions from the courtroom of America's great Chief Justice, John Marshall. Who determines what the Constitution means—what is and is not constitutional? In this 1803 case the Supreme Court established its responsibility to review the constitutionality of acts of Congress. President John Adams appointed Federalist William Marbury as justice of the peace, but failed to deliver Marbury's official commission before President Jefferson and the Democratic-Republicans took over the administration. Marbury asked the Supreme Court to order Jefferson's Secretary of State, James Madison, to deliver the commission. Marbury's demand precipitated a confrontation between Chief Justice Marshall and President Thomas Jefferson. The Supreme Court held that it did not have jurisdiction and declared that the law permitting the Court to hear the case was unconstitutional. Purchase of the tape of this video was made possible through a contribution by Joseph Kulhavy.

The Concert for Bangladesh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concert_for_Bangladesh (Madison Square Garden - 1971) How many roads must a man walk down Before they call him a man How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand How many times must the cannonballs fly Before they are forever banned The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind The answer is blowing in the wind How many years can a mountain exist Before it is washed to the sea How many years can some people exist Before they're allowed to be free How many times can a man turn his head And pretend that he just doesn't see The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind The answer is blowing in the wind How many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky How many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry How many deaths will it take till he knows That too many people have died The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind The answer is blowing in the wind http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowin%27_in_the_Wind

Another one of my favourites, always bringing me to tears when I watch this, starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood (very unusual role for him, but he did a great job in this movie as an actor and director.)

Kirsty MacColl on TOTP 1991.

meryl streep watches clint eastwood stand in the rain as thier eyes say goodbye....then she returns to reality and turns to a friend..the only divorced woman in the town...but never shares her secret...until her children read her will..that is the way the story is told..as they read it.

On Monday afternoon, 14 April 2008, a funeral service was held for Bishop S. C. Madison, known as Daddy Madison, at THE United House of Prayer For All People Church http://unitedhouseofprayerforallpeople.org/ at 601 M Street in NW Washington DC. Here is an unedited clip of the Madison New Life Band from the UHOP / Charlotte NC at the corner of 7th and M Street, NW, performing an original version of gospel artist Vanessa Bell Armstrong's 1986 "Peace Be Still" (slow-walked)" during the funeral march that followed the service at the church. At the conclusion of the funeral service, the Madison Livelystones lead the New Orleans style 'funeral march' from the steps of the chuuch at 6th and M to the corner of 7th and M, followed by church dignitaries and the pallbearers who escorted the body to 7th and M for the waiting hearse. As the funeral procession departed the corner of 7th and M and proceeded north on 7th Street, escorting the body for interment, 'New Life' played on ... to a crowd of farewell bidders. This original verison of Vanessa Bell Armstrong's 1986 "Peace Be Still" (slow-walked) was one of the last musical selections performed. Madison, WI at State St. A huge crowd formed on State St around 12:30am within about a 10 min period and then marched to the capitol. Here's a rundown of the scene by some guy named Ben Masel: "160 out of the Majestic, swells to 1,000 when we hit the Mall. 500 turned around, joined by another march of 700 coming out of the dorms. 1,500 at the Square, turns around again, 6,000 on Bascom Hill, turn around again and hit the Capitol with 8,000. 1/2 hour later, the streets were empty. MPD wisely backed off, tho a little slow on the uptake in rerouting traffic. I had to divert the busses. Most sober mob I've ever joined."
