January 6th, 2009 at 01:00:48 I think that's where some of the fault lies with the media. They have been so caught up in covering Obama's cabinet picks- which do require SOME coverage- that they haven't been pressuring the current administration to do anything about the economy, or for that matter Israel's invasion of Gaza. I agree we can't forget that until noon on January 20th, George Bush is still our president.
January 6th, 2009 at 01:23:47 Furthermore, Iraq was a war declared by America, however Somalia was intervention. It's morally very different occupying a country, tearing it apart, then leaving it to bleed - than it is to reduce military intervention in someone else's conflict.
January 6th, 2009 at 01:46:46 As an onlooker from the UK, I'm naturally optimistic for Obama and I was completely untouched by McCain's campaign, however I happen to agree with McCain on this single issue. Also, I don't think he was really 'owned' - he just didn't recognise his own words from years and years back. His response was good; the two countries Somalia and Iraq are completely unrelated and have utterly different roles in the context of world peace.
January 6th, 2009 at 02:09:45 I agree a superficial message of hope is not enough, but then what else can a man who hasn't been sworn-in to office do at this point?! I agree that the plight of the average American may not substantially change, but some drastic damage limitation is needed right now, and that is what the Americans will get with their incumbent.
January 6th, 2009 at 02:32:44 This man is the most intelligent politician I've ever seen in my life. Only Sarah Palin is as smart. Actually, I think she's smartier than he is. But what do I know? I'm a Republican.
January 6th, 2009 at 02:55:43 Tim Russert... =( R.I.P.

January 6th, 2009 at 04:04:40 A general feeling of drastic change has swept over the nation of the November elections, one that I'm sorry to say will most likely die down as the nation realizes that a superficial message of hope is not enough to ignite our economy and put an end to the Mid East conflicts. While I support him as a progressive politician, I don't think his presidency will yield and substantive change in terms of improving the plight of average Americans.
January 6th, 2009 at 04:27:39 While I myself support President-elect Obama's policies (with a few exceptions concerning the Israeli/Palistinian conflict), it's upsetting to see a tremendous amount of young voters who choose to cats their vote for "change" and "hope" only because of the novelty of our first black president. I understand it's a milestone, coming full circle from slavery to electing an African American president, but the a candidate's skin color is by no means enough the qualify him for the presidency.
January 6th, 2009 at 04:50:38 convention, the Framers decided the United States was to have a PRESIDENTIAL, not a parliamentary, executive, where the people (indirectly through the Electoral College) and not the legislature elected the chief executive. This was established to prevent one party from gaining and holding power. With both Congress and the White House in the hands of a single faction, the same kind of majority tyranny that James Madison thought would be protected (in the Federalist #10) has been established.
January 6th, 2009 at 05:13:37 Before I go any further, I'd like to reiterate that I am a moderately liberal, Democrat-leaning centrist that supported Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries and the Senator Obama in the general election. After Senator McCain's disappointing selection of Governor Palin as a running mate, I was happy to see Obama run away with the electoral vote. That being said, I'm slightly concerned about both the White House and Congress being controlled by a single party. During the Constitutional

January 6th, 2009 at 07:08:32 RIP tim.
January 6th, 2009 at 07:31:31 How is he eating his words? Those were words about a DIFFERENT war. McCain does not believe in unnecessary wars. He thought Somalia was unnecessary, and Iraq is necessary. What did he do to contradict himself?
January 6th, 2009 at 07:54:30 I am still dancing because that stupid, old man is not going to be President. What a lying, self-promoting opportunist!
January 6th, 2009 at 08:17:29 OUCH !!! That's gotta hurt. I'll bet that one left a scar. Perfect setup though. Another "gotcha" moment by the Liberal media? LOL Nothing like being confronted with your own words... words that entirely contradict what you're NOW saying, to completely mess up the flow of your argument.
January 6th, 2009 at 08:40:28 He should stick what he's good at, flying planes.
